Senior Legal Manager - Stockport

£80,000 + with attractive benefits.

Overview

A growing property business is looking to appoint its first Senior Legal Manager to establish and lead its in-house legal function. This newly created role reflects the company's continued growth and increasing need for dedicated legal support, providing an opportunity to shape how legal services are delivered across the business from the outset. For the right individual, there is a clear pathway towards a future Head of Legal or General Counsel position.

About the Firm

This is an established and expanding property business with an entrepreneurial approach and ambitious growth plans. Working closely with senior leadership, you'll have genuine autonomy to influence legal strategy, develop internal processes and become a trusted commercial adviser across the organisation.

Role Overview

  • Lead and develop the company's legal and compliance function as its first dedicated legal appointment
  • Manage housing and tenancy matters, including possession proceedings, tenancy disputes, rent challenges and disrepair claims
  • Advise on the Renters' Rights Act, the Housing Act and wider residential property legislation.
  • Act as the business lead for GDPR and data protection, including managing DSARs and wider privacy matters.
  • Manage relationships with external law firms, determining which matters should be handled internally and when specialist external advice is appropriate
  • Develop legal policies, governance frameworks and processes to support the business as it continues to grow
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders, providing commercially focused legal advice on day-to-day operational matters

Candidate Profile

This opportunity is likely to suit a qualified Solicitor with around 5 years' PQE, although applications will be considered on the basis of relevant experience.

You should have:

  • A strong background in housing law, residential property litigation or tenancy management
  • Experience handling possession proceedings, tenancy disputes and wider landlord and tenant matters
  • A good understanding of GDPR and data protection legislation
  • A commercial, pragmatic approach with the confidence to work autonomously
  • Experience of developing or improving legal processes and ways of working
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across a business

Offer and Benefits

  • Salary of £80,000 and above
  • Competitive benefits package
  • The opportunity to build and shape a legal function from the ground up
  • Direct access to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence business decisions
  • Clear long-term progression towards a future Head of Legal or General Counsel position
