Overview

An independent Manchester law firm is looking to appoint a Commercial Litigation Solicitor at NQ to around 3 PQE. The specialist litigation team is expanding, creating an opportunity for a junior solicitor to gain early responsibility across commercial disputes, insurance litigation and professional negligence, with hybrid working available following probation.

About the Firm

The firm is an independent practice with a strong focus on commercial disputes, insurance litigation and professional negligence. It handles complex and high-value contentious matters while maintaining the close-knit and accessible working environment of a specialist firm.

Senior lawyers provide support and supervision, but junior solicitors are also trusted to contribute, think independently and take increasing ownership of their work.

Role Overview

  • Work alongside experienced litigators on a varied commercial disputes caseload.
  • Advise on contractual disputes, insurance coverage and policy matters, professional negligence claims and professional indemnity work.
  • Assist with complex and high-value litigation involving businesses, insurers and professional clients.
  • Contribute to the strategy and progression of matters rather than working solely in a supporting role.
  • Develop direct relationships with clients as your confidence and experience grow.
  • Take on increasing responsibility while retaining access to support from senior lawyers.

Candidate Profile

Likely to suit around NQ-3 PQE as a guide, although applications are also welcomed from trainees approaching qualification.

Previous experience through a seat or role involving commercial disputes, professional negligence, insurance litigation or broader civil litigation would be helpful. Specialist experience is not essential, provided you can demonstrate a genuine interest in contentious work and the ability to develop within the practice.

You are likely to be:

  • Analytical, organised and comfortable working through complex issues.
  • Proactive and willing to take responsibility for progressing matters.
  • Clear and professional when communicating with clients and colleagues.
  • Commercially aware, with an interest in the wider context of a dispute.
  • Keen to continue learning and build a long-term career in commercial litigation.

Offer and Benefits

  • Competitive salary.
  • Hybrid working following successful completion of probation.
  • Exposure to complex commercial disputes and specialist contentious work.
  • Direct support from experienced senior litigators.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise in insurance litigation and professional negligence.
  • Earlier visibility and responsibility than may be available within a larger department.

What Now?

This role may suit a junior litigation solicitor looking for broader exposure, closer senior support and the opportunity to take on meaningful responsibility at an early stage.

An initial conversation can take place discreetly, and you don't need a CV to start.
