This is an opportunity to join a long-established property investment and management business in Harrogate as its first in-house Commercial Property Solicitor, on an initial 6 to 12 month fixed-term contract. The role has been created as part of a wider business transformation, with a clear intention to build long-term in-house legal capability as systems, workload, and structure continue to evolve.
About the firm
The business has a substantial and historic commercial property portfolio, including retail parks and other commercial assets across Yorkshire, London, and further regions. It is investing heavily in digitisation, new systems, and internal infrastructure, and offers a professional, grounded working environment with close access to senior decision-makers.
Role overview
* Acting as the day-to-day legal point of contact for all commercial property matters
* Managing leases, renewals, variations, break options, and licences to occupy
* Handling landlord-side asset management across a mixed commercial portfolio
* Advising on tenant issues including arrears, defaults, and enforcement
* Supporting property sales, acquisitions, and future investment projects
* Instructing and managing external solicitors on specialist or high-value matters
Candidate profile
This role is likely to suit an experienced commercial property solicitor, around c.6+ PQE as a guide, who is comfortable operating autonomously and taking ownership of matters from instruction through to completion. Candidates may come from private practice or an in-house background, but should be confident acting as the sole in-house lawyer and working closely with senior stakeholders.
While offered initially on a fixed-term basis, the business views this hire as the foundation of its in-house legal function. For the right person, there is a clear and genuine prospect of transitioning into a permanent position as the function beds in and the business continues to grow.
Offer and benefits
* Competitive remuneration, commensurate with experience
* Harrogate-based office next to the train station
* Four days in the office, Fridays working from home
* 35-hour working week, Monday to Friday
* Collaborative, low-ego culture with direct access to decision-makers
