An established Legal 500 regional law firm is looking to make a senior appointment into its Wills, Trusts and Tax team in Shrewsbury.
This is more than a caseload hire. The firm wants someone who can become a senior presence for private client work in Shrewsbury, develop relationships across the local professional community and help grow the practice over the longer term.
About the Firm
The firm has a strong reputation for private client work and longstanding relationships with clients and professional advisers across the region.
It continues to invest in its Wills, Trusts and Tax practice, with an experienced wider team providing the technical and operational support for this appointment.
Role Overview
- Take a senior role within the Wills, Trusts and Tax practice in Shrewsbury.
- Develop and strengthen the firm's private client offering locally, with the backing of the wider team.
- Build and maintain relationships with IFAs, accountants and other professional referrers across Shrewsbury and Shropshire.
- Act as a senior point of contact for private client matters locally.
- Provide supervision, technical guidance and support to junior lawyers.
- Work closely with senior colleagues on the continued development of the wider private client practice.
- Handle high-quality work including wills and estate planning for HNW individuals, trusts, succession planning and tax matters.
- Advise on inheritance tax and capital gains tax planning, including agricultural and business property relief.
Candidate Profile
The firm is open to an existing Private Client Partner looking for a senior role with autonomy, or a Senior Associate at around 8+ PQE who is ready to make the move towards partnership.
You'll need strong technical experience across wills, trusts and tax, with a good understanding of IHT and CGT planning. Experience involving agricultural and business property relief would be particularly relevant, and STEP qualification is preferred.
This isn't a role requiring someone to arrive with a substantial portable following. Of greater importance is the ability to develop trusted relationships with clients and professional referrers, alongside the technical credibility to take a senior position within the team.
Location and Working Pattern
The role is predominantly office-based in Shrewsbury, reflecting both the seniority of the appointment and the importance of relationships with the local client and professional community.
Some flexibility is available, including limited home working and pragmatic flexibility around childcare where appropriate.
Candidates will need to be within a realistic commute of Shrewsbury or genuinely interested in relocating to the area.
Offer and Benefits
The firm offers a competitive package within the regional market and has flexibility around structure and remuneration for the right person.
For an appointment at Partner level, equity participation can be considered.
