You will manage your own caseload of claimant housing disrepair matters from first instruction to conclusion, ensuring excellent client care and compliance throughout.
Key duties
Take new enquiries, assess merits and onboard clients in line with the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions claims
Draft letters of claim and manage the pre-litigation process, including chasing disclosure and repair records
Instruct and liaise with independent experts and surveyors, interpret reports and build liability and quantum
Prepare schedules of disrepair and loss, calculate general and special damages and assess prospects
Negotiate with landlords, local authorities, housing associations and their representatives to secure repairs and settlement
Issue and run litigated cases where necessary, including drafting pleadings, witness statements and trial bundles, and liaising with counsel
Manage directions, disclosure and expert evidence, ensuring key deadlines are met
Proactively progress files, achieve settlement and billing targets and maintain accurate records on the case management system
Uphold SRA, GDPR and firmwide risk and compliance standards
About you
Experience running a claimant housing disrepair caseload, or strong claimant litigation experience with clear exposure to disrepair
Working knowledge of section 11 Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018 and the Housing Conditions Pre-Action Protocol
Confident drafting skills and a pragmatic approach to negotiation and settlement
Excellent client care, including supporting vulnerable clients and managing expectations
Strong organisation and attention to detail, able to work with minimal supervision
